A Noun, A Verb and P.O.W

September 15, 2008

I heard an interesting argument today. There was some general discussion about the ethical implications of the recent slew of aggressive advertising by both candidates. Particular emphasis was placed on an ad run by the Obama campaign that attacked John McCain’s inability to use a computer. Apparently the ad can be interpreted as low, as shameful. My question is why?

Why shouldn’t it give the population pause that a man vying to be their leader can’t by his own admission send an email? The complaint is that the technological ineptitude is due largely in part to McCain’s injuries sustained as a POW. The argument is of course complete bullshit, and is frankly shameful itself as McCain or at least his surrogates are using his status as a POW to shield him from criticism, in much the same way Rudy Giuliani deflected questions by touting September 11th.

And if in the off chance McCain is really so physically impaired that he can’t move his fingers up and down a keypad, he has no business running for high office.

Just Can’t Get Enough

August 29, 2008

The jury’s still out on the decision to select Palin as McCain’s VP. But one thing most people have agreed on: John McCain is taking a risk picking a first-term governor with no national recognition and even less exposure to the national spotlight.

ABC:

“Sarah Palin: A High Risk/Reward Pick for McCain”

CNN:

“John McCain’s brilliant but risky “Hail Mary pass” choice for vice president, Alaska Gov. Sarah ‘Barracuda’ Palin, has the political world saying first: Who? And then: Why?”

NBC:

“She represents the most audacious gamble in McCain’s career and a gamble with the fortunes of the Republican Party.”

So it was a surprise to see this snapshot at talkingpointsmemo.com from Palin’s speech today.

Speechless…Again

August 29, 2008

Last night left me speechless for all the right reasons. This morning I awoke speechless again, but for the exact opposite reasons.

Sarah Palin? Seriously?

Speechless

August 28, 2008

Nobody can deny the oratorical mastery of Barack Obama, whether or not you agree with the content of the man’s speeches.

He dazzled the Democratic National Convention in 2004 with a call for hope. He dazzled 200,000 Europeans eager to welcome a new America to the international arena in Berlin. He dazzled the nation as he discussed race and its role in our society  in terms never before heard in the United States. And tonight, he dazzled the world with his American Promise, a blueprint for the way forward and the way up out of the misery and uncertainty caused by the Republican Party over the last eight years.

McCain Health Care Plan: The Delete Button

August 28, 2008

Do you remember as a child when you covered your eyes with yours hands and you thought nobody else could see you? I learned the sad truth at around age four that in fact it was just me who couldn’t see anyone else.

Perhaps it is time someone told John McCain and the rest of the Republican Party.

Taxation With Misrepresentation

August 23, 2008

A Talking Points Memo bulletin this evening breaks down the two tax plans by Obama and McCain by looking at the taxes that would be paid by…Obama and McCain.

An excerpt:

Obama’s proposals would raise his own taxes by hundreds of thousands of dollars, in order to cut the taxes of people who are less fortunate than he is. McCain would cut his own taxes even further than they’ve already been reduced.

The full post from Talking Points Memo after the jump.

Obama Lies!

August 21, 2008

I know that this blog is for supporters of Barack Obama at Stony Brook University, but here at the SB4BO blog, we calls ‘em like we sees ‘em. And because of that, we have to report that Sen. Barack Obama lied on the campaign trail this morning.

You see, Barack Obama claimed that John McCain is the embarrassed owner of seven houses across the country, when in reality he owns at least 10.

Evangelical Event Benefits…Obama?

August 18, 2008

The Evangelical population of this country has been one of the most secure and powerful Republican voting blocs for decades now. So when it was announced that pastor Rick Warren of the Saddleback megachurch, an evangelical hub in southern California, was to host a presidential forum with both Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain, there was some skepticism of the integrity of such an event.

Evangelical voters may not support McCain like they supported Bush

Evangelical voters may not supportMcCain like they supported Bush.

But watching both candidates speak to Warren and thousands of attendees and millions of television viewers, something unexpected unfolded. If anyone could be considered the beneficiary of the event, it was Barack Obama.

Smearing Obama and what you can do about it.

August 15, 2008

Jerome Corsi, the co-writer of 2004’s ‘Unfit for Command’, a biased and unfair look at John Kerry’s Vietnam experience, is back at it again. Evidently, he saw fit to squirm out of the hole that he was living in because he took one look at Barack Obama and saw someone that he needed to knock down. ‘The Obama Nation’ is his filthy sequel in which he spreads lies and baseless innuendo about Obama. Sadly, it will debut at #1 on the New York Times bestsellers list. If you are enraged-you should be. But here are some reasons why it won’t be as bad as it was for Kerry and what supporters like us can do about ugly smear campaigns like this:

-The Obama campaign pushes back

-Corsi: Everything short of tarred and feathered on Larry King Live

-Along with pointed columns like this one, by well-respected Joe Klein

The advantage that the Obama campaign will have until November is that his supporters feel very passionate about his candidacy and the real change that he represents. I know that I have corrected misinformation that my mother heard in various places and it is important to stay vigilant and make yourself heard when something false rears its head. Because guess what. On November 5th, we’re stuck with whoever won for four years.

“Strong” Leader or Real Leader

August 5, 2008

Hello all, my name is Adrian Carrasquillo. Son to a mother, brother to a sister, and agent of change officer in the Stony Brook for Barack Obama group.

I read an unhealthy amount of Barack Obama coverage because I believe that this is the most important election in our nations history. I don’t think that there is any question about it and soon enough I will post some of the reasons why Barack Obama is the only choice come November 4th.
