Today’s person more qualified for the vice presidency: Joe Heilman, student government president at North Dakota State University! Click here to find out why.

We can now host live blogging! Of course, it would have been handy to have these past few days at the DNC, but regardless.

We are set to cover all the big news coming out of Denver, where 15,000 journalists and bloggers are currently setting up shop for opening day of the Democratic National Convention.
Of course, our reporting will be done from the comfort of our couches or, in my case anyway, the local coffee shop.

I tend to be a silver-lining, glass is half full kinda guy, so allow me to bring up a quick point about the 2000 election.
Yes, George W. Bush is the worst president in the history of our country, yes he is responsible for the deaths of over 4,100 US soldiers in Iraq, yes he has plunged the economy into a deep recession with no end in sight, and yes he could be tried in criminal court for everything from treason to murder.
But we owe some thanks to Florida’s hanging chads and the Bush Sr. appointed Supreme Court. Why? Because if it weren’t for them, Al Gore would have been president, meaning that in all likelihood the Democratic nominee in the 2008 presidential election would have been the incumbent Vice President, current Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman.

As I’m sure most of you know, Barack Obama has chosen Delaware Senator Joe Biden as his running mate! The decision was widely expected, as Biden’s wealth of knowledge on issues ranging from foreign policy to the economy helps Obama quiet any misgivings about a perceived lack of experience.
Obama and Biden are scheduled to make their first joint appearance as running mates today in Springfield, Illinois at 3pm EST.

“I thought the Britney Spears commercial was powerful,” Schumer said, referring to McCain’s television ad casting Obama as a vapid “celebrity.” Currently promoting the paperback edition of his book “Positively American,” which argues for a Democratic agenda pitched around a new set of bread-and-butter issues and government activism on behalf of middle class voters, Schumer didn’t directly criticize Obama’s strategy. Rather, he argued for a higher-velocity response. “I would answer back hard. What do you mean he’s not one of us? It’s John McCain who wears $500 shoes, has six houses, and comes from one of the richest families in his state,” Schumer said. “It’s Barack Obama who climbed up the hard way, and that’s why he wants middle-class tax cuts and better schools for our kids.”
As a staunch Obama supporter and defender, I get upset at times and want Obama to react more decisively against McCain’s attack’s, which have no bearing on the hardships that Americans are facing today. But it has been Obama’s policy to take the high road and let McCain sink himself in his negative muck. Clearly, Obama is not going to stoop to McCain’s level, but I think that sharp rebukes like the one Schumer offers here will help to make his case. If he doesn’t shoot down these attacks then he might need to rely on a new-found attack dog. The 2004 Democratic nominee, John Kerry.
Related: A July 2nd look at a candidate’s elitist lifestyle which is at odd’s with the lifestyle of most Americans. Of course I’m talking about John and Cindy McCain, and her habit of racking up $250,000 to half a million dollar credit charges-in a single month.
